The mountains are located at a higher elevation than the meadows, making it cooler year round. The foothills have fairly defined seasons with fairly cold winters, but there is always prey. Some parts are fairly steep, which allows the wolves to catch the occasional mountain goat that frequent the summit. There is also enough water because the snow that is usually on the summit will melt as it reaches the foothills. This is the source of the river going through the forest. The wolves from the summit can see the wolves of the foothills, though, so if they were so inclined, they could attack without warning. The summit has a harsh climate, with brutally cold winters and relatively short summers. They are not very tall, which allows the wolves to live in the many caves surrounding the peak. Mountain goats inhabit the same area, though they are tough to catch. Some wolves have also been successful at attacking the birds that sometimes make their nests on the mountain, but they usually just find the nest and eat the eggs. Water is not a problem because snow can be found almost throughout the year.
